J. Michael Mackay
I am the head of the Workers’ Compensation Department at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, and a Board Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation law. After graduating from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law, I worked for one of the largest insurance defense firm in North Carolina. Later I decided to shift the focus of my practice, and began to focus on the representation of employees who need legal representation in their workers’ compensation injury cases. In my present role, I view each day as another opportunity to make a difference for our clients with their workers’ compensation claims.
I am a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, and attended the public schools in this State. At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I majored in journalism and political science, where I ultimately graduated with dual degrees. While at UNC-Chapel Hill, I received journalism scholarships and interned at several newspapers. I also completed studies at the Institute of Political Journalism at Georgetown University. After graduating from law school, I continued my interest in journalism and joined the Winston-Salem Journal as a crime and general assignment reporter. I enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. During law school, I ultimately decided to focus my interest in litigation, which was a natural combination of my journalism background that included investigative and communication skills. I also had the fortune of meeting my wife in law school, and we are currently the proud parents of two children.
I find that representing people with work-related injuries and occupational illnesses is very rewarding and challenging. I take pride in the high professionalism of our workers’ compensation department, which has assisted hundreds of individuals in their times of need.
I am a member of Wake Forest Presbyterian Church. Outside of work, I enjoy hobbies such as major league baseball, college basketball, and many other sports activities. I have visited most of the major league baseball parks and have the goal of seeing the remainder. I also enjoy travel, and lived in Puerto Rico for several years when I was young. I realize that just as I have great hopes for my family and children, so do my clients. I bring that focus and determination to work on daily basis for our clients.
