Rick Fleming

Mr. Fleming is a board-certified specialist in social security disability law. His areas of practice include workers’ compensation, social security disability, car accident and other personal injury and disability cases. Fluent in Spanish, he has assisted many Latino members of our North Carolina community.


Rita Hanshumaker

Originally from Long Island, NY, Ms. Hanshumaker graduated from UNC School of Law-Chapel Hill in 1997. She then worked as a litigation attorney for an insurance defense firm in Raleigh before concentrating her practice on personal injury.


J. Gabe Talton

Attorney (Bilingual)

Born and raised in Raleigh, NC, Attorney Gabe Talton worked as a public defender in Florida before returning home to North Carolina. Mr. Talton concentrates his practice on pre-litigation personal injury cases as well as cases that proceed to the courts.


Ed Atencio

Investigator/Direct Mail Representative (Bilingual)

Mr. Atencio is originally from Panama City, Panama, but raised here in the states in Greensboro NC. His background is in the financial services industry where he has worked at various major corporations in a variety of different sales and service positions assisting clients and managing portfolios. He came to James Scott Farrin with over 12 years experience in customer service, sales, and finance and has been a #1 rep in several companies in a sales and service capacity.

Mr. Atencio enjoys spending time with his daughter, fishing, live music, and travel. He is also fluent in Spanish and English and excited about being able to assist our clients in both capacities.

Zoila Barraza

Legal Assistant (Bilingual)

Ms. Barraza is based out of our Durham, NC office working as a bilingual legal assistant. She relocated to North Carolina from Long Island, New York. She brings with her fifteen years of customer service and administrative experience. In her spare time, Ms. Barraza enjoys dancing, swimming and spending time with her family and friends.

Delba Correa

Sanford Office Coordinator (Bilingual)

Ms. Correa works in our office in Sanford, NC as the receptionist, attending to the needs of our Latino clients. She is a native of Puerto Rico. Ms. Correa has been a resident of North Carolina for 17 years and has worked with the Latino community since 1989. At the moment she is still active in the Latino community to help the Latinos in this country. For this reason she came to work for the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, contributing in aiding Hispanic residents in defending their legal rights in any type of industrial accident, automobile or workers’ compensation. If you have been injured or know someone who has been injured, Ms. Correa may be able to help you in your own language.

Maricela Gondek

Durham Office Coordinator (Bilingual)

Ms. Gondek joined James Scott Farrin in 2003 as a Case Manager and now works primarily receiving clients and visitors daily at our Durham headquarters. Fluent in Spanish, Ms. Gondek has a B.S. in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. Ms. Gondek, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a native of Mexico City, lives in Durham with her husband Ken.

Cherie Hatton

Paralegal (Bilingual)

Originally from Miami, Ms. Hatton moved to the Raleigh area in 2003 and joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in the summer of 2006. Fluent in Spanish, Ms. Hatton has over 15 years of legal experience and most recently worked for insurance companies and with defense firms in the areas of litigation and workers’ compensation . She enjoys the beach, the mountains, art, reading and especially spending time with her husband and two very active toddlers, Giana and Chloe.

Susan Middour

Paralegal (Bilingual)

Ms. Middour has been with the Law Office of James Scott Farrin since 2001. She works with our lawyers, our clients and their insurance companies to negotiate workers’ compensation settlements. She is instrumental in securing successful case closures for our clients. She is a native of Chapel Hill and enjoys hiking and photography.

Ray Peterson

Fayetteville Office Coordinator (Bilingual)

Mr. Peterson has provided customer service and administrative support for over ten years in a variety of settings. Mr. Peterson is bilingual and actively participates in volunteer work within the Hispanic community.

Mr. Peterson also enjoys traveling and watching the Mets…when they’re winning.

Kenya Reynard

Case Manager (Bilingual)

Ms. Reynard is originally from Florida and moved to North Carolina three years ago. She works as a Case Manager at James Scott Farrin and is pleased to assist our Spanish-speaking clients with their sometimes complex workers’ compensation concerns. She also assists as an intake specialist and Spanish translator. Before joining our firm she employed her considerable customer service skills as a sales manager for a major retail organization and in debt management. When not working Ms. Reynard is an avid athlete and is often seen on her bike, in the pool or running in training for the triathlons and other competitions that she enjoys.

Javier Ruiz

Case Manager (Bilingual)

Mr.Ruiz is originally from Ecuador and fluent in Spanish. Mr. Ruiz joined the Law Firm in September 2005 as an Investigator. He enjoys helping out our Spanish-speaking clients with their personal injury and workers’ compensation cases. Mr.Ruiz earned a degree in Business Administration and worked for many years in banks in Ecuador. This experience dealing with clients has carried over to his most important commitment: to provide excellent customer service to our Hispanic population. At the moment, Mr. Ruiz works specifically with our Hispanic clients in the resolution of their personal injury cases. Mr.Ruiz in his spare time loves to spend time with his wife and also likes sports, soccer being his favorite sport. If you need someone always willing to help, do not hesitate to contact Mr.Ruiz. He will always be ready to answer any concerns you may have about your personal injury case.

Cali Schmitt

Paralegal (Bilingual)

Originally from Woodstock, NY, Ms. Schmitt is an alumnus of the University of North Carolia-Chapel Hill, and currently studying law at North Carolina Central University. She studied Spanish at el Centro Internacional Formacion Actoral Luz Columba, and volunteers locally as an ESL tutor. In her spare time Ms. Schmitt enjoys playing dominoes, reading and traveling.

Shawn Somerville

Senior Investigator (Bilingual)

Mr. Somerville joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in June 2005. He proudly served his country for ten years in the Military Intelligence branch of the Army. He works primarily in the North Eastern regions of North Carolina and is willing to travel where needed. Mr. Somerville enjoys meeting new people, working with the public and is a recent convert to the world of golf. In his leisure time he is often found reading a book, fishing, catching a movie, or braving the weather persuing that elusive golf swing. He is also bilingual in English and Spanish and serves as a Field Investigator.

Andrea Sterling

Marketing Representative (Bilingual)

Ms. Sterling has been with the firm since early 2002. A native of Colombia and a talented actress, she can also be seen in our commercials on Univision television. Ms. Sterling serves as our primary liaison to the Spanish-speaking community and is fluent in Spanish. She meets with clients all over the state and serves on community boards and with Hispanic centers in our community to assist Spanish-speakers to find assistance with their legal concerns. She also assists in translating for our Spanish-speaking clients when they meet with lawyers concerning their car accident and workers’ compensation cases.

Todd Strader

Investigator (Bilingual)

Mr. Strader joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in November 2005. He proudly served his country for seven years in the Airborne Infantry branch of the Army. He has lived abroad for several years and enjoys travel. He works primarily in the Central regions of North Carolina and is willing to travel where needed. Mr. Strader enjoys meeting new people, working with the public and is also a recent convert to the world of golf. In his leisure time he is often found reading a book, cooking, walking his dog or spending time with his kids. He is also bilingual in English and Spanish and serves as a Field Investigator.

Eddie Vivero

Case Manager (Bilingual)

Mr. Vivero joined our team as a Case Manager in the summer of 2007. Mr. Vivero relocated to the Raleigh-Durham area in 2007 from California where he was born and raised. Mr. Vivero brings with him over 16 years of experience including working in Government Agencies, as a Health Care Manager, and as a Finance Manager. He enjoys running long distances and has participated in several marathons in Hawaii, Long Beach, CA, and he plans on participating in the upcoming Raleigh/Durham marathon.

Christina West

Intake Representative (Bilingual)

Christina joined the Firm in the summer of 2007. Christina was born and raised in Spain and then went on to live in several European Countries as a young adult. Prior to joining the Firm she worked for the North Carolina Public School system teaching Spanish. She looks forward to assisting both our Spanish and English speaking clients. In her spare time she enjoys reading, exercising and of course traveling.

Ruthie Williams

Investigator (Bilingual)

Ms. Williams has been with the Firm since June of 2004 and is one of the friendly voices you may hear when you first call our office to discuss your personal injury claim. She works primarily out of our busy Fayetteville office. She is a graduate of Fayetteville State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and is a proud member of Psi Chi National Honor Society. Ms. Williams is fluent in both English and Spanish and also serves as an Investigator.
