On October 31, 2008, a 57-year-old woman was driving on NC-58 near Kinston, North Carolina when she drifted left of center, causing a car accident. A passenger in the other car died from injuries sustained in the car accident, while the woman was listed in critical condition.

No charges have yet been filed in the fatal car accident.
